Parents’ Participation Key to Education Reform

Chandigarh,15 December

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, speaking at Rayat Bahra University, said that the School Education Department is organising a comprehensive series of workshops titled “Parents’ Participation” along with a Mega PTM in all schools across the state on December 20. The initiative aims to revolutionise the education sector through active collaboration with School Management Committees (SMCs). On his arrival at Rayat Bahra University, Harjot Singh Bains was received by Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra and Group Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr) Sanjay Kumar.

Bains said the primary purpose of these workshops is to empower parents. He said the government wanted every parent to have clear information about the child’s academic progress, the contribution of government schools, and their role in school development. This effort will build an unbreakable bridge between home and school for the holistic development of children.

Bains said over Rs 2,000 crore had been invested to upgrade 12,000 government schools with new/repaired boundary walls, classrooms, toilets, and playgrounds. Besides this, 118 existing senior secondary schools had been converted into high-tech “Schools of Eminence” for advanced peer learning.

The minister said the main aim of Sikhya Kranti was to make government schools competitive and ensuring quality education for every child in Punjab, marked by tangible infrastructure development and technological advancement.

He sought cooperation of the staff members of the government schools in making the campaign a success.
