RBU Football Cup 2026 celebrates talent, teamwork and inclusion

RBU Sports FC lift Football Cup, inclusive teams make their mark

Chandigarh, August 31: The University School of Physiotherapy & Radiology (USPR), Rayat Bahra University, in association with the Department of Sports, organised the Football Cup 2026 at the University Main Ground, bringing together sporting talent, teamwork, fitness and inclusion.

The tournament, organised in collaboration with the National Rehabilitation Institute (NRI), Bharat Vikas Parishad and FootWarz Academy, witnessed participation of eight teams comprising around 70 players. Four of the participating teams included students with hearing and speech impairments from NRI and FootWarz Academy.

The enthusiastic participation of these players underlined the message that sporting talent transcends physical and communication barriers and that every individual should have an equal opportunity to participate and excel in sports.

The Football Cup was organised under the guidance of Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar and Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Satish Kumar. Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Kumar Gupta, Dean, USPR, served as the chairperson and guided the successful conduct of the event.

Addressing the players, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar and Prof. (Dr.) Satish Kumar appreciated their enthusiasm, discipline and sportsmanship. They said sports played an important role in promoting physical fitness while also developing confidence, leadership, resilience, teamwork and mutual respect.

Dr. Dharamvir, Associate Professor, Department of ENT, PGIMER, Chandigarh, was the Guest of Honour. He encouraged the participants and highlighted the strong connection between sports, health, rehabilitation and overall well-being.

The tournament was coordinated by Dr. Karanveer Singh, Director of Sports, Rayat Bahra University, and Coach Billu, associated with football clubs in Chandigarh and Mohali.

The final between RBU Sports FC and USPR FC was closely contested, with RBU Sports FC emerging as the champion.

Vice-Chairman, Rayat Bahra Group, Gurinder Singh Bahra, presented trophies and medals to the winners and runners-up. Certificates were distributed to all participants, while T-shirts were presented to students with hearing and speech impairments as a special gesture of inclusion.
