RBU honours students for outstanding social initiatives

Rayat Bahra University (RBU) honoured students with certificates and cash prizes at the Education, Social Responsibility & Excellence (ESR) Awards 2026 for their outstanding performance in competitions focused on drug-abuse awareness and water conservation.
Harjit Singh Grewal, Chairman, National Commission for Minorities, who was the chief guest, said leadership and public service must be rooted in social equity, harmony and a strong sense of responsibility. He urged students to actively participate in social welfare initiatives and channel their energy towards nation-building.
Former Punjab DGP Ishwar Singh, the guest of honour, emphasised the importance of discipline, integrity and dedication in public service. He encouraged students to launch campaigns on water and electricity conservation and environmental protection on the campus.
Former MP Avinash Rai Khanna said the ESR Awards provided a meaningful platform for young people to combine their career aspirations with social responsibility. He appreciated RBU’s efforts to engage students in socially relevant activities.
RBU Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra said education should go beyond classrooms and academic degrees, while Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar stressed the need to nurture students into responsible and ethical citizens. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Satish Kumar highlighted the importance of balancing academic excellence with social and ethical values.
Prof. (Dr.) Simerjit Kaur, Dean, Students Welfare, organised the ESR competitions at the Rayat Bahra Group of Institutes level.
On the occasion, students who had successfully completed First Aid Training were also presented certificates by Harjit Singh Grewal and Ishwar Singh.
