Gaiety marks Lohri celebrations at Rayat Bahra University

Rayat Bahra University celebrated the festival of Lohri with great enthusiasm and cultural fervour at its Open-Air Theatre, showcasing the vibrant spirit of Punjabi tradition and community bonding. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and guests, creating a colourful and joyous atmosphere.
The programme commenced with the arrival of guests, accompanied by soothing Punjabi instrumental music that set a festive mood. The anchor welcomed the gathering and highlighted the cultural and seasonal significance of Lohri, emphasising its association with harvest, gratitude, and togetherness. This was followed by a series of lively cultural performances, including energetic Bhangra and soulful Punjabi folk songs that enthralled the audience.
Addressing the gathering, Group Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar underlined the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage within academic institutions. The cultural segment continued with graceful Giddha performances, Punjabi poetry recitations, and traditional folk presentations reflecting the rich emotional and artistic legacy of Punjab.
Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra, inspired the audience with his motivating address, stressing the values of unity, cultural pride, and holistic institutional growth.
The highlight of the celebrations was the lighting of the traditional Lohri bonfire by Chancellor S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra along with Group Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar and Prof. (Dr.) S K Bansal . Traditional rituals were performed around the bonfire, symbolising prosperity, warmth, and new beginnings. Students and faculty members enthusiastically danced around the bonfire, adding to the festive spirit.
The celebrations concluded with the sharing of traditional Lohri delicacies, including peanuts, rewari, and gajak. Overall, the Lohri celebrations at Rayat Bahra University offered a memorable experience, beautifully blending tradition, culture, and community harmony.
